DEP iNTERSTATE CREW WAS FIRST MOBILIZED DURING THE 1979 FIRE SEASON (2 TRIPS-WASHINTON STATE,CALIF.). DIDN'T GO AGAIN UNTIL 1985 (BIG SUR). AGAIN IN 1986(OREGON),THEN 1987(OREGON), AND YES ,YELLOWSTONE IN'88 (WENT WITH NEW YORK AS A STRIKE TEAM). DIDN'T NEED TO GO TO THE PRIVATE SECTOR (TO FILL OUT CREWS) UNTILTHE EARLY 90'S. CREW REMAINS ABOUT 50% PRIVATE SECTOR FOLKS TO THIS DAY. DEP ALSO WAS ABLE TO GET SOME INDIVIDUALS SPECIALIZED TRAINING OVER THE YEARS AND THEY NOW GET INDIVIDUALOVERHEAD ASSIGNMENTS ON WESERN FIRES (STRIKE TEAM LEADERS,DIVISION SUPERVISORS, HELITACK, ETC.
